It might not be the traditional time of year for a pantomime but then members of Kensington Lodge Farm equestrian training centre at Mattishall, like to do things differently.

Following the success of two previous years the riding school has decided to put on another panto this weekend, with only one week of rehearsals.

The centre's owner Tigga Gough has only finished writing the script last week, which is based on the musical Grease, and will see around 30 children and up to 15 horses taking part.

“We have done two pantos before at Christmas time and it can be quite horrible weather for the children if it is wet and cold so this year I decided it should be at the end of the summer holidays,” she said.

“I think it will still have to be in the indoor school though because the weather has been so bad.”

She said the riders started rehearsals on Monday and have been working on the show every day from 9am to 6pm until the performances on Saturday and Sunday.

Ms Gough added: “I hope it will be fun for the children to do something like this the week before they go back to school and they are all very excited about it.”

She said she had been watching the film endlessly trying to adapt it for horses but luckily they have a Spanish horse at livery that can dance and even lie down on command.

The panto is open to the public with two performances each day at 2pm and 5.30pm. Tickets cost £5 adults and £3 for children and OAPs (in advance only) by ringing 01362 850685.
