Sixty talented students from Dereham's Neatherd High School took to the stage to showcase their dance skills, featuring everything from GCSE exam work to gifted and talented group performances.

At its recent Dance Show pupils from year 7 to 11 entertained an appreciative audience, with the evening beginning with an outstanding performance by Emily McDonnell and Maddie Palmer – two competitive dancers – who received applause, whooping and cheering.

Other highlights included Tyler Brooks’ choreography exam piece that told a story of a man cheating on his wife, only to be left with no-one. His talented composition included acrobatics and an emotional connection with his two other dancers meant that there wasn’t a dry eye in the audience.

The Hofesh Boys – a group of strong male contemporary dancers from the upper school gifted and talented group - wowed the audience with a fast and powerful routine while the lower school gifted and talented group performed to the Lion King’s Circle of Life.

The girls performing this looked serene and proud as their costumes, made by Mrs Sanderson, reflected the elegant nature of lionesses.

The evening was not only important for Neatherd pupils but also an ex-student, Frankie Wall, who since leaving the High School last year has set up her own dance school Frankie Wall Dance.

By performing two different pieces of movement she showcased what her dance school is all about.

Choreographer Miss Harris said she was proud to have been part of the performances as all the students had worked extremely hard.

The audience were left buzzing with excitement summed up by Year 10 student Alice Watts who added: “I can’t believe I have never come to the Dance Show before – it was fantastic!”
