Plans for up to 21 homes on a former railway yard at North Elmham were approved by Breckland councillors on Monday.

Land and New Homes, of Dereham, wants to redevelop land at Station Road, for housing but proposals were previously deferred due to a range of concerns including drainage.

The development control committee heard Anglian Water was confident that the existing sewerage system was adequate to cope with the extra development.

The outline planning application - which was supported on Monday - includes a range of homes including apartments and larger detached houses.

No specific numbers have been finalised but it will be up to 21.

There will be improved access and footpaths at the site.

Councillor Terry Lamb voiced concern about the lack of parking for people who could use the railway if the line through North Elmham is opened in the future.

Members were told as the development site did not belong to the Mid Norfolk Railway, conditions relating to the rail line could not be imposed.
