Powercut affecting thousands of people in mid Norfolk

A power cut is affecting thousands of homes and businesses in mid Norfolk.

UK Power Network became aware of a power cut in Dereham at 11.24am on Tuesday, January 28.

A total of 993 homes and businesses have been affected by the cut, which was caused by an outage on an underground electricity cable on Norwich Road.

Locations affected include Dereham, Yaxham, Hockering, Honningham and Mattishall.

Since engineers arrived on site at 11.46am, they have been working to find the source of the outage.

A spokesperson from UK Power Network said: "We're sorry for any disruption this may have caused you.

"We didn't know in advance there would be a power cut, but now that we know, our teams will do everything they can to get your power back quickly.

"We've liaised with engineers and we're aware that more customers have lost power in the area.

"This is due to engineers continuing with diverting power around the network in order to identify the fault."

The fire service also attended the scene on Norwich road while an engineer made the electrical pole safe.

Power is expected to return to the area between 5.30pm and 6.30pm.
