But as he enjoys a new high point in his career, actor and funnyman Rob Brydon has made two new discoveries which he is sharing with the world - Norfolk is beautiful and its mobile phone signal is poor!

Brydon - who co-stars with Ruth Jones in award-winning BBC show Gavin and Stacey - has spent time over the past week unearthing some of North Norfolk's gems and talking about them on Twitter.com, the latest internet-based social networking craze.

'Norfolk is lovely,' 'Norfolk's beautiful,' and 'Holkham - it's big!' are among the messages he posted on his travels as well as recalling visits to places such as Blakeney, Holt and on the North Norfolk Railway to Sheringham.

The high profile Welsh entertainer also put on pictures on the site showing various beach scenes and left his 16,000 'followers' - people who keep tabs on what he is posting - to guess where they were taken.

Many Twitter messages are short one-liners put on from a mobile phone and Brydon lamented that the reception is weak and prevented him saying more about his visit.

Brydon - who resumes his UK tour this week - will be getting even more nationwide media exposure over the next month as he is seen appearing on the Red Nose Day song, which is a re-make of Islands In The Stream, a huge hit for Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, written by the Bee Gees..

Twitter - which was launched in 2006 - boasts six million users, so is dwarfed by Facebook's 150 million.

However, its audience has grown by more than 1000 pc in the past year and with US president Barack Obama as an advocate - and he has more than 300,000 followers - it is on the rise and rise.

Norfolk actor Stephen Fry is the second most popular 'tweeter' and has generated much attention to the latest form of communication and he has 220,000 followers.

Twitter says of itself it 'is a service for friends, family, and co-workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?'
