Needy children in Africa are being given the chance of a better future thanks to two women from Bintree whose fundraising has already helped put up a new school building.

Now the pair are holding a four-day sale in their village of Bintree, to help pay for materials for its roof.

Lynn Hollings and Terry Pasquale first visited the school on holiday a few years ago. It was a rundown building with not even tables or chairs for the pupils or teacher.

Their fundraising has helped pay for materials to renovate the building and work on a new one, in the remote village of Kafuta Tumbung.

The sale will be held at Bintree Old Forge from Good Friday to Easter Monday.

“The last sale raised about £1,200,” said Mrs Hollings. “It does not sound a lot but in The Gambia it goes a long way.”

Their helper in Gambia, Sheriffo Darboe, uses funds to buy tools and equipment for the school where 51 children aged four to six are taught.

The pair plan to return and want to build four classrooms, a toilet block and a well. All money raised goes directly to the school.
