Estate agent signs on an empty shop in Dereham are raising hopes that a major retailer will soon confirm its intention to open a store in the town.
'Under offer' signs have been put on the former betting shop on the High Street just a few days after Breckland Council approved planning permission for change of use to retail.
The application by The Stow Partnership LLP in Newton Flotman was for change of use from sui generis (former betting shop) to A1 retail (WHSmith) with works to include a new internal ground floor shop fit.
A spokesman for estate agents Brown & Co could not comment on the potential buyer of the store as negotiations are under way.
But in a report to planners the case officer for Breckland Council says 'the Economic Development Service is very pleased to support the application from WHSmith to bring their business to Dereham'.
