Police are urging home owners to be vigilant after the latest in a spate of suspected rogue trader incidents in the Dereham area.

Two reported rogue trader incidents have been reported this morning.

The first was when a man called at an address in Shipdham Road in Dereham at about 10.15am.

He went to the door asking the resident if they wanted work done to their driveway.

The caller did not have any ID and was quite pushy in his approach, police said.

He was described as white, aged in his late 50s and of large build.

The second was when a suspected rogue trader called at address in Sporle the same morning. It was at about 10.45am at a home in Sydney Dye Court.

A man came to the door asking the resident if they wanted work done to their windows. The male was quite pushy in his approach and the resident was left scared by his manner.

He is described as white, in his 40s, of medium build, 5ft 10ins in height and well dressed.

Norfolk County Council's trading standards officers said residents should never agree to have work done, or buy goods from, anyone that calls unannounced at their door, or approaches them on the street.

“Often such traders don't provide full names, trading addresses or contact telephone numbers, resulting in it being virtually impossible to trace them if there are any problems with the work or goods - which is all too often the case,” a statement from the police said.

“Such traders often ask for cash upfront, and don't offer the entitled seven-day cancellation rights also.

“Always ask for identification from any unexpected callers and do not to let anyone in if you are not comfortable with who they are.”
