Traffic easing on first day of Royal Norfolk Show after earlier delays

Traffic is easing on Wednesday on the opening day of the Royal Norfolk Show today after delays of up to an hour reported earlier on part of the A47.

Crowds of 90,000 people could visit the Norfolk Showground across the two-day event as the popular agricultural show makes its return.

At 9.30am, there were lengthy delays of up to an hour on the A47 from North Tuddenham heading towards the city.

However, by 10am, delays were said to be easing as the majority of people had arrived at the event.

In a tweet on Wednesday morning, National Highways East said there was about five and a half miles of traffic congestion.

In Church Lane, traffic had been reported as slow towards the A47 Easton Roundabout, as well as on the A47 westbound between the B1108 turn-off and showground slip road.

Queues also formed in Dereham Road around the perimeter of the showground.

In Bawburgh Road, there were 40 minute delays past the Bawburgh Golf Club and in Harts Lane and Stocks Hill.

Light drizzle fell for a short time but the conditions soon improved and the showground was bathed in warm sunshine. The forecast is very good for the rest of the day.

After being postponed for the past two years due to the coronavirus pandemic, The Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association (RNAA) promises a jam-packed event that also includes a visit from The Princess Royal, Princess Anne.
