Fakenham Town, under new caretaker manager Neil Jarvis and with new signings as a result of King's Lynn's demise, finally got their first Ridgeons Division One points at the 13th time of asking on Saturday.

The Ghosts gained a 3-2 win against visitors Diss Town, fourth in the table, and now hope that this will kick-start their season.

Jarvis has taken over the team until the end of the season and brought in five former Linnets, four of whom played, with two scoring.

Club vice-chairman Paul Wright said: “At last! We shouldn't really be so glad of three points but, at the end of the day, we are.

“We are very pleased. It was a good result, it just came right for us. We were able to draft in some new

players - on the back of King's Lynn unfortunately - and it made that little bit of extra difference. It was a nice balance of youth and experience.”

He said the club hoped this was a turning point in the season, but was quick to praise previous managers Stuart Woodhouse and Mark King, who had resigned by mutual agreement with the club. “This win is as much for them as the new manager Neil Jarvis,” he stressed. “They put the basis of the team in place.

“We are quietly confident this can be the start of the season in terms of kicking it all off.

“There was a good buzz round the ground and we had our highest gate of the season, just over a hundred, the average has been around 50.”

Mark Shadrack fired the Tangerines ahead midway through the first half.

Four minutes into the second half substitute Jake Betts crossed low from the right for Julian Delicata to equalise. Within six minutes George Watts-Sturrock had levelled but new signing and captain Stephen Harvey found the top right-hand corner of the Diss goal with a free kick.

Then another ex-Linnet, Matthew Gilchrist headed the winner from a left-wing corner. New keeper Tom Rix commanded a determined home defence against the Diss response.

Leaders Yarmouth proved too strong for their visitors Thetford, running out 3-1 winners. Thetford had opened the scoring from close range by Dixon then after some end-to-end play the Bloaters equalised and then added another through McGee, who slotted a free-kick into the net before Roach sealed the points with a strike into the roof of the net. Both teams were reduced to ten men late in the game.

Swaffham were on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline at home against Brantham. They went behind early on, and despite battling could not reduce the defecit.

Gorleston drew 2-2 with visitors Saffron Walden while Godmanchester Rovers lost to Cornard 3-0, Halstead and March shared four goals, Team Bury hosted Stowmarket and won 3-0 and Downham returned from Whitton with three points from a 2-1 victory.
