A builder who left £1 million in his will made sure that the future of his village institute would be safeguarded for future generations.

Albert Shackcloth, of South Creake, near Fakenham, who died earlier this year aged 60, left £50,000 in his will for the on-going running costs of the South Creake War Memorial Institute.

The club premises are currently on the market and when sold the proceeds will be used to develop a new pavilion on the village recreation field. It will include a meeting room and shower and changing facilities for the sports teams.

Mr Shackcloth was known as something of a character in the village and, in his role as a Trustee of the War Memorial Institute, he had been actively involved in the re-development plans for the proposed new pavilion.

He was known as a keen bowls player and enjoyed greyhound racing.
