Psst! Want to know what a queen of the realm rather liked for pud? And to what, or whom, Stephen Fry refers as Honey Buns?

Oh, and do you fancy trying out a yummy chocolate recipe so simple that even the former head of the British Army can follow it?

If the answer to any of those is 'Yes', well, you'll just have to wait – all of them will be revealed in a new book being put together by the Bawdeswell Badgers pre-school to celebrate the Queen's diamond jubilee.

In the meantime, the children would love to hear your favourite recipes – particularly any with royal connections – as well as handy hints for maintaining a happy household.

Pre-school supervisor Carol Taylor and her team have fired off letters to famous and prominent people asking them to contribute items to include, and they are thrilled with some of the replies received so far.

The present Queen's Sandringham Estate staff sent a recipe for Peach Alexandra, a variation on Peach Melba that was created for Queen Alexandra, wife of King Edward VII.

Norfolk-based wit, actor and broadcaster Stephen Fry contributed honey buns, a tasty concoction comprising eggs, sugar, flour, butter... and honey.

Lady Dannatt, wife of former chief of the general staff General Lord Dannatt, has sent Carol the recipe for the first risotto she ever made – one that's remained a firm family favourite.

She also submitted one for chocolate crispy squares, adding that it was so easy to follow that the general, who was no cook, could manage it.

Among other contributions, economic secretary to the Treasury and Norwich North MP Chloe Smith has revealed her passion for making – and eating – Mississippi mud pie and has enclosed an appropriate recipe. Also, a grandmother has supplied the information to make Hokey Pokey biscuits, explaining how they bring back memories of New Zealand.

And handy hints? Lady Dannatt has offered one for making your party candles last twice as long by putting them in the fridge beforehand. For soldier's wife Carol – her husband Daniel serves now in the Territorial Army and was a major in the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers – the involvement of someone with such close ties to the top brass has been a particular thrill. 'It wasn't just that Lady Dannatt bothered to write back but that she took the time to say she would like to buy a copy. She has absolutely entered into the spirit of the book,' she said.

Famous or not, anyone with much-loved recipes and hints is welcome to send in their suggestions. And, if you have an interesting family history or even royal connections, so much the better.

The 36 Badgers tiny tots, aged between two and four, will do the artwork, and, ideally, the pre-school wants the book to be done, dusted and out on the streets in time for the nation's main jubilee celebrations in June.

Proceeds from sales will go towards improving the youngsters' facilities.. Carol explained: 'We need a new mobile classroom. Our main one is really, really old now and we want one that has a kitchen in it so we can make hot meals for the children.'

Send your contributions to Carol Taylor at Bawdeswell Badgers Community Pre-School, Bawdeswell, Norfolk, NR20 4RS.
