Around 5,000 wild bird eggs have been seized from a man’s home in the Broadland area.

Police said they were called to Cawston Heath, near Reepham, following reports of a man acting suspiciously.

He was located by PC Colin Bailey and arrested after being found with a clutch of wild bird eggs.

But police said a search of the man’s house on Monday revealed a much bigger haul.

Officers uncovered around 5,000 wild bird eggs, which had been stored in wooden trays and catalogued.

A post on the Broadland Police Facebook page said: “Enquiries now continue with the RSPB to establish the full extent of the recovery and the long term damage caused to our declining population of wild birds.”
