TRAIN enthusiasts have the chance to live out a childhood fantasy and get behind the controls of a real life locomotive on Sunday.

An opportunity to become a 'driver for a tenner' is one of the attractions at an open day at the Mid-Norfolk Railway, which travels between Dereham and Wymondham.

Visitors to Dereham station will also be offered a demonstration and guided commentary on the trains, tours of the station and yard, and visits to inspect progress on the upcoming Thuxton passing loop and signal box.

Trains will operate according to the line's blue timetable, with passenger trains leaving from Dereham at 11am and 2pm, retuning from Wymondham shortly afterwards.

There will demonstration freight train journeys at 10.30am and 3.30pm, and an opportunity to drive a resident diesel locomotive under instruction between 12.30pm and 1.45pm.

Station and yard tours will take place throughout the day at 11.15am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
