But let’s get back to the big day and when holding your wedding at an English Heritage site, there is the flexibility to tailor-make the day of your dreams. There are no in-house caterers or set decorations – instead, there is a choice of trusted, high-quality suppliers who understand how to protect the historic fabric of the sites.

With an experienced team on hand to guide couples through the process of planning the perfect day, here’s our pick of some of English Heritage sites available for weddings.

Ranger’s House, London.

This Georgian villa, on the boundary of Greenwich Park and Blackheath, is more recently known as a filming location for the Netflix historical-romance, Bridgerton, making it a great wedding venue. Available for wedding ceremonies, the Long Gallery, with its fine bay windows and antique furnishings, make it an elegant space suitable for beautifully intimate ceremonies. Old Wardour Castle, Wiltshire.

Built as a luxurious medieval home in the 16th century, The Castle Room is a simple, unadorned space inside the medieval keep, while the Pavilion is a bright and airy mock-Gothic Georgian building with views of the lake. The central exterior courtyard is a perfect space for drinks receptions or a relaxed post ceremony picnic. Be inspired further from Old Wardour Castle's website.

Wrest Park, Bedfordshire.

Historic gardens and acres of peaceful parkland are crowned by a honey-coloured, French-style house and a baroque pavilion.
