Lewis Bates, 14, is celebrating after clinching the Dereham Golf Club Junior Championship sponsored by Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors, Larking Gowen.

He led the field of 11 and came home with a net score of 64 to take top spot and was presented the Larking Gowen claret jug by Dereham office partner Steven Rudd.

The Captain's Shield and Putter was won by Jamie Beeby, who has been playing for less than two years, with a net score of 66.

“The warm, windy weather did not stop the juniors from performing well,” said organiser Jane Bizley.

“Both boys have only been members for a short time but the improvement in their game has been fantastic. After today Jamie will have his handicap reduced to 12.

“Our congratulations go to Lewis and Jamie for their great performance on the day and indeed to all the competitors who took part,” said Steven Rudd.

“Dereham Golf Club can be rightly proud of them and I hope the juniors go on to bigger and better things.”

There were also nine- and five-hole tournaments, with James Hunt, Tom Newey and Harry Howe taking the honours.
