Hindringham boss Marcus Oliver called on his troops to battle like they have not before against Brandon, as this was their last chance of avoiding the drop.

And the players responded by notching up an excellent 3-1 victory which closed the gap on third from bottom Halvergate to just six points.

Oliver named the same side which narrowly lost to Cromer last week. Hindringham played with the wind at their backs and pushed forward looking for an early goal.

Hindringham struggled early on through over-playing the ball and Brandon looked dangerous by playing one up front with two supporting.

But the hosts dug deep and started to get Chilvers in down the left wing, with Betts and West linking up well and pulling the defence around.

Chances were created and from a Chilvers corner Tommy East continued his scoring run as he stroked home from close range.

Brandon struck back 10 minutes later but Hindringham then had enough chances to put the game to bed, East failing to connect when clean through and Coslett firing over from 30 yards with the keeper out of position.

Then Betts worked his magic and beat the defender and whipped in an inch-perfect cross for skipper West to rise and head home at the far post.

Hindringham played much better in the second half, with every player playing their part, in a half they controlled. Brandon's defence was being tore apart and this enabled chances to be made.

In the move of the game, Defew won the ball and played to Tagg who released Chilvers down the wing and he sent a low cross over for Coslett, who had covered 30 yards to slide home from close range.

Oliver replaced the injured Craig East and was at his best to win all headers which came his way. Olser in goal was dealing well with the wind and his punching was first class when he was beaten. Clipston cleared off the line before Hindringham played out the rest of the match in control and looked to rise in confidence as the game went on.

Manager Oliver said: “My boys have risen to the challenge we have set them and you have to remember we are playing at a very high level where clubs are paying big money and my boys turn up for nothing.

“They have given me their all for the past month and we are starting to get our rewards. They stick together as a team and we will push on and try to achieve our goal of staying in this division.”

This week Hindringham travel to Lowestoft Reserves. Lowestoft are away but due to their first team playing at home, Hindringham will be playing at Kirkley's ground. The mini bus will be leaving Hindringham's main sponsors the Bistro at 12 noon.

Many thanks go to all who attended the race night last Saturday at the Bistro. Special thanks to Shannon and Liam.

In total, the club made a £375 profit on the night. Another great turnout by the club.
