Wroxham Res 0, Mattishall 1

Mattishall picked up their second win of the season in the Anglian Combination Premier Division when they visited Trafford Park to face a very youthful Wroxham Reserve side on Saturday.

The early stages saw the hosts with the majority of the possession but it was the visitors who created the first chance when a strong run by Jack Ainsley saw his cross controlled by Christian Harbour, who fired over.

However in their next attack Mattishall took the lead. Following a long clearance from goalkeeper George Pledger, Harbour's flicked header found Stephen Davis whose strong run took him to the by-line. His pull-back was driven into the corner of the net off the inside of the post by Harbour for his third goal in as many games.

The visitors continued to create chances and a free-kick from Jake Dugdale saw the ball break to Davis, who burst through and brought a sharp save from Oliver Sutton in the home goal.

The hosts then got their first delivery into the box but the effort was headed wide by Matthew Doyle.

Another home attack saw the cross end with a shot that took a wicked double deflection but Pledger adjusted to make a fine save and the ball was cleared as the visitors went into the break with a slender lead.

The second half continued with Wroxham again having the majority of possession but the visitors creating the openings and Davis found some space before crossing to Harbour, whose header flew just over the bar.

The hosts saw a good move end with a Jamie George header that missed the target while at the other end a George Watts-Sturrock shot went just wide.

When Harbour went off injured on 70 minutes to be replaced by Jacques Pound-Scully the visitors began to have total possession.

A shot by George saw Pledger make a sprawling save and as the hosts pushed forward for the equaliser on a rare breakaway, Davis broke forward and his burst took him past the back four and his strike was well saved by Sutton.

Wroxham continued to push and a deep cross from Cain Eagleton saw the ball fall to Aaron Sanders who blazed over, but the visitors' solid back four of Nat Bash, Dugdale, George Gagen and the impressive Jake Anema held firm and it was Mattishall who went home with the points.

Mattishall Reserves lost 4-1 at home to Cromer Town Reserves in their Norfolk Junior Cup first round replay on Saturday.

Ross Taylor was on target for the hosts.

Mattishall A lost 4-0 at Sporle in the Norfolk Primary Cup first round.

In their previous match, Mattishall A beat Rockland United Reserves 3-2 in the Mervyn Lambert Plant Hire Pease League Cup first round.

Mattishall took the lead through Liam Waller but Rockland equalised in the second half.

Arron Fletcher who had been pushed up front scored twice with well taken goals after through balls beat the away defence.
