Mattishall 0, St Andrews 1

Mattishall entertained St Andrews in the second round of the Norfolk Senior Cup and narrowly lost by the only goal of the game.

Mattishall started very brightly with a half chance in the first few minutes when the visiting keeper was well off his line, leaving a gaping goal but a long range lob went well wide of the mark.

In the 18th minute the visiting keeper pulled off a great save from a free-kick to keep the scores level.

Spooner up front for the visitors was starting to cause panic in the home defence as his darting runs on the left flank were opening up the defence. The same player was using his height to put his head to two good corner kicks putting the ball just over the bar.

A firm header from a home corner kick saw Jake Anema head firmly goalbound only to see the ball plant itself firmly into the Saints keeper's hands.

George Watts-Sturrock had a good chance to put the hosts ahead, but his shot went just wide of the post as the half-time score remained 0-0.

Mattishall started the second half on the offensive but again looked lightweight up front as they could not convert their hard work into an opening goal.

As the match got into its later stages extra time was looming, but the dangerous Spooner did the damage for the hosts as his first time toe punt from a corner kick into a congested Mattishall defence went into the right hand corner of George Pledger's goal, giving the visitors their opener which proved to be the winning goal.
