Dereham B (19pts) beat Downham C (7) by 92 runs in the West Norfolk League Division Five

Dereham B secured a fifth successive win with victory over Downham C in their top-of-the-table clash.

Dereham won the toss and opted to bat, losing opener Nic Bliss early before captain Sam Widdows and Zak Baker compiled a stand of 76.

Baker was bowled for 30, which led to a middle order collapse as Dereham slumped to 99 for eight, with Widdows also departing, for 40.

Tom Simpson helped turn the game back in Dereham's favour with a quickfire 66 not out, receiving excellent support from Josh Barber and Neal Widdows in partnerships of 47 and 49 respectively, as Dereham recovered to 195 all out.

Simpson then did the damage with the ball in a terrific opening spell, taking 3-13 in his seven overs, as well as taking two outstanding catches.

Spinner Rob Mabee then took full advantage of a slow, turning wicket to take 5-24, as Downham were bowled out for 103.

Dereham B now head into their bye week 12 points clear at the top.

A severely-weakened Dereham Sunday XI were comfortably beaten by Mundford.

With several youngsters absent playing in the Junior Carter Cup, Dereham did well to even get 11 players out.

They bowled the visitors out for 177, with captain Jake Anema finishing with 4-51 from his 10 overs. There were also two wickets apiece for Nick Riches, George Pledger and Neal Widdows.

In reply, David Lake top-scored with 15, several batsmen falling to rash shots as Dereham were bowled out for 85 in the 27th over.
