Beetley went into their penultimate game of the season in the NCL Division 2W looking for a win against Gooderstone, who sat one place below them.

The visitors were asked to bat first and the story of Beetley’s season unfolded.

Every batsman made a start but a top score of 17 from Tom Esterhuizen was the best effort and Beetley were all out for 105 in 42 overs.

Defending a low total against determined opposition was never going to be easy but opening bowlers Calvert and Curry kept it tight and at 10 overs the score stood a 22-2, with a wicket each for the openers. But the home side’s middle order gradually took control and Fossey (32 not out) and captain Seymour (37 not out) guided them home in the 39th over and saw them leapfrog Beetley to climb out of the relegation places.

Beetley face a Holt side already relegated in their final game, with a win essential to stand a chance of staying up (1pm).
