The prospect of Norwich City first teamers getting a run out looks set to guarantee a bumper crowd at Dereham's Aldiss Park for a pre-season friendly - sponsored by the Dereham Times - tomorrow evening (Friday), 7.30pm.

A Canaries XI - managed by first team coach Paul Stephenson - is set to mainly feature young professionals and Academy players as they give the Magpies a good test ahead of the new campaign.

But the fixture could be even more mouth-watering if City field some of the new signings, players returning from injury or who have lacked action in previous pre-season friendlies. The club has not revealed the squad for tomorrow and it is unlikely to be finalised until the last minute as new deals are completed and any casualties from the Swedish tour are assessed.

However, a spokesman said the strength of the City team “could be similar to the one which played at Gorleston.” Several first team regulars such as David Marshall, Gary Doherty, Matty Pattison, Jon Otsemobor, Jason Shackell and Darel Russell as well as new arrivals Wes Hoolahan and Sammy Clingan all played for part of the game alongside the youngsters.

Dereham chairman Simon Barnes said extra tickets had been printed. “We are looking forward to welcoming Norwich back to Aldiss Park. In the past it has been games such as this that generate much-needed revenue for the club, and the support already has been fantastic with ticket sales going well.

“The decision to only charge £6 for adults and £3 for under 14s has been very well received by Norwich supporters and Dereham alike and in a time when people are looking at what they spend I feel we have allowed people to watch their team at a sensible cost.”

Dereham manager Matt Henman said the Dereham squad - including new signings John Higgs (goalkeeper), Adam Smith (midfield), centre halves Dean Miller and Paul Cousins, Andrew Wood (striker) and Ben Furlong (left back) - have worked really in pre-season. “Whatever team Norwich put out will be a good one. Some of our players have been involved with Norwich in the past so it will be really good for them.”

Tickets are on sale at Just Kitchenware in the High Street, Birds Sport & Outdoor in Norwich Street, and Breckland Taxis in the Market Place or from Dereham Town on 01362 690460.
