Cricketers at Swanton Morley have been bowled over by a donation of £1,500 towards their recently-completed practice area.

The cheque was presented to Swanton Morley Cricket Club by the East Anglian Region Committee of the Lord's Taverners. Committee chairman Leslie Rowland and local taverner David Norman also gave the club a special Lord's Taverners bag of cricket equipment including bats, pads, gloves and helmets designed for junior members.

These are used extensively at the practice sessions for youngsters on Monday evenings, and club chairman George Northall said the free availability of all essential equipment was greatly appreciated by young players and their parents.

He said: “The Lord's Taverners do excellent work raising funds to provide equipment and better facilities to encourage young cricketers.

Many local youngsters will benefit from their generosity and, hopefully, continue to enjoy playing cricket well into the future.”
