Bradenham recorded their second seven-wicket win of the weekend as they eased into the second round of the Carter Cup against the potentially difficult hurdle of up-and-coming Hales.

The hosts batted first and got off to a reasonable start with both Andersen and Jones hitting the ball sweetly.

However, with the score on 40 it was Robert Thurley who made the breakthrough, having Andersen well caught at first slip by Dewing.

This was to prove an early turning point as wickets then started to fall at regular intervals. Thurley struck twice more and Greg Caffyn produced a late in-swinging yorker to dismiss Squire and the home side were suddenly 55-4.

Chad Balluza making his first team debut was brought on half an hour before lunch and he took a good catch off his own bowling to dismiss the dangerous looking Harmer while Al Bates also got in on the act having top scorer Anderson caught in the covers. At lunch Hales were reeling with six wickets down.

Bradenham came out after the interval in determined fashion and Balluza took three more quick wickets to leave the home side on the brink. The re-introduction of Stolworthy soon ended the innings as he clean bowled Squire and in just 42 overs the home side were all out for 142.

Rob Thurley and Marcus Evans opened up with Evans cashing in on anything over pitched with three cover-driven fours before falling to a catch in the gully for 16.

Thurley and Whyte carried on their work from the previous day with a partnership of 73 taking Bradenham to 92 before Thurley was caught at midwicket for a fine 54.

Balluza also batted well for a patient 15 before it was left to skipper Blakey to finish off in grand style, hitting three fours and a six in an eight-ball innings of 19 to steer Bradenham home. Blake Whyte celebrated his 21st with an unbeaten 39.
