Swanton Morley Cricket Club's annual meeting at the Angel Inn was well attended. This had been the first season when the club tried to put out three teams every weekend, and it had sometimes been a struggle.

Efforts must be made to recruit more quality players for next season. Barry Green presented detailed accounts which had been independently audited by Anne Sadler and Brian Peters, who were thanked for their efforts.

It was reported that 15 games had been cancelled, mainly due to wet weather, and this represented a lost income of around £716. For the first time in 25 years, the annual President's Match had to be called off.

Annual subscription fees are to be increased to £15, with a concessionary rate of £7.50 and these are due by April 1. Match fees remain at £5, or £2 concessionary rate for those under 18, anyone in full-time education and the unemployed.

Appreciation was expressed to the vice-presidents for their financial support and to those local village businesses that sponsored the club's handbook, which raised over £100 from the advertisements.

The executive officers of the club were elected: Michael Balaam, president; George Northall, chairman and fixture secretary; Nathan Raines, vice-chairman and youth cricket manager; Rosemary Northall, secretary; Barry Green, treasurer; Peter Fuller, child welfare officer.

The Saturday WNCL captain elected was Nathan Raines, vice-captain Stuart Whitney; Saturday A side WNCL captain Peter Ellis, vice-captain Arthur Lake; the MNSCL captain Jonathan Bidewell, vice-captain Daniel Lake.

A new constitution, based on an ECB model, had been recommended, and was formally adopted. It incorporates all the updated regulations regarding child welfare matters and give clearer guidance as to how a club should be run effectively.

Future projects were discussed and members agreed in principle to proceed with proposals to replace the existing old pavilion with a new, well designed building, providing toilets and showers, which are pre-requisites before the club can be considered for promotion into the Alliance League.

A major project to provide covers for the square, based on designs and costings produced by Wayne McKinney, were also approved. Most of this work will be done in-house, using members' expertise and skills. The score box also needs some refurbishment.

Prior to the start of the formal meeting, awards were made to those members who were unable to attend the presentation evening earlier this month.

Accordingly, members of the Saturday WNCL A side assembled for a group photograph and received individual awards to mark their team's success in coming top of League Division Five. Team captain, Peter Ellis, also received the WNCL Cup.

Vice-president Mrs I Hyde presented the awards, which also included trophies for the best bowler to Gary Whiteside and the President's Cup to Wayne McKinney.

Jordan Mustard received the Alfred Hyde Memorial Cup in recognition of his success in junior cricket.

The pre-season meeting will be held in March and, in the meantime, Nick Richer is to arrange indoor net practices at Easton College from January onwards.
