UNBEATEN Swanton Morley A were given a fright by Dereham B in an entertaining match at Elsing on Saturday.

Swanton batted first and 16-year-old Ryan Widdows was the pick of the bowlers for Dereham, picking up 5-46 from 12 overs with his spin.

Ian Clarke got 2-18 and Tom Simpson returned figures of 2-30 as they limited Swanton.

Dereham fielded very well and James Harbour and wicketkeeper Liam Cameron both got two catches - Harbour took the pick of them as he held a stinging cover drive from Barry Green.

The one downside for Dereham was the total of 54 wides and they later paid the price for that.

Peter Ellis top scored for Swanton with 24 and Arthur Lake got 22.

In reply, Dereham kept up with the required run rate throughout and Nick Bliss, making his first appearance for the side for about three years - got an entertaining 37 and Ian Clarke (14) and Sam Widdows (11) both made useful contributions.

Tony Carter was the pick of Dereham's batsmen with an excellent 45 and took the team to the brink of victory before being bowled in the final over.

Dereham can take heart again from another spirited display.
