Dereham Golf Club’s junior members continued the 2012 season on Bank Holiday Monday by playing for the Worthington Trophy, sponsored by Dillington Hall PYO.
The competition saw some good scores at all levels. New junior captain Ryan Thorogood took the trophy with a net 67 (73-6-67), closely followed by vice captain George Bedwell (84-15-69) and immediate past junior captain Lewis Bates (79-4-75).
In the nine-hole competition Harry Bush with a net 33 pipped Will Dewing (net 34) into second place with Liam Kevern taking third place with a net 37. There was also a five-hole competition which saw Freya Biles taking top slot. Prizes were presented by Ladies President Sheila Brightwell.
Following the presentations Lewis Bates handed over the role of junior captain and the junior captain’s polo shirt to Ryan Thorogood. Bates, who became junior captain in October, has recently passed his playing ability test to enter onto the PGA Foundation Degree course. The club and the junior committee are very proud of his achievements and wish him well as he loses his amateur status later this month and works towards becoming a professional golfer.
The junior season continues with the Captain’s Junior Prize & Larking Gowen Championship on Sunday, June 24 at 1pm.
Dereham Golf Club will host its annual Junior Open, sponsored by Ben Burgess and club member David Ashfield, on Friday, August 3, tee times from noon. See website for details or contact junior organiser Jane Bizley on 01362 693153.
