A young Dereham Otters team took first place in the Norfolk Junior League round two gala at their home pool at the weekend.

The squad, aged between nine and 12, followed up their third place in round one by winning the Christine Clark Cup with a score of 172 points.

Diss Otters came second with 153 points with Norwich Swans B third (145) and Great Yarmouth fourth (137).

This was a superb performance by Otters with individual first places for Aiden Futter (9) in 25m breaststroke and butterfly, Beatrice Green (9) in 25m breaststroke, Sky Manning (9) in 25m butterfly, Harry Stark (10) in 50m backstroke, Megan Summer (10) in 50m backstroke, Jack Tattersall (10) in 50m butterfly, Riley Walker (10) in 50m freestyle, Chloe Partridge (12) in 50m freestyle, Amelie Passam (12) in 50m butterfly and Charlie Summer (12) in 50m backstroke and butterfly.

The Dereham youngsters also claimed first place in several freestyle and medley relay races, completing the evening with an outstanding win in the final cannon relay, a freestyle race consisting of one swimmer from each age group.

The previous weekend saw Otters compete in the Norwich Swan gala at the UEA. Twenty-eight swimmers competed in events covering distances of 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m and 127 personal best times were achieved.

The following swimmers achieving first places; Anghelina Bulman (10) 200 individual medley, Harry Stark (10) 50m and 100m backstroke, Milo Milton (11) 400 freestyle, Amelie Passam (12) 100m, 200m freestyle and 50m, 100m butterfly, Benjamin Riglar (12) 100m freestyle, Megan Bale (14) 100m and 200m breaststroke, Cailean Fennah (14) 50m and 200m butterfly, Ajay Foreman-Mulley (15) 200m backstroke and Harry Weston (16+) 50m backstroke.

Next up for the Otters is the Eastern Region Championships where the club have nine swimmers competing, having achieved the regional qualifying times in their age groups.

Dereham Otters cater for swimmers of all ages and ability. Weekly training sessions are provided, with teaching leading through ultimately to squad training and competition. Various levels of competition are catered for and training is tailored to suit, from in-house fun galas to county and regional competition.
