Dereham Runners AC put in a strong showing at the annual Alex Moore Memorial relay at Skeyton, fielding no less than 10 teams and taking home the trophy for best Ladies' Masters.

A relay race around the village of Skeyton near Coltishall, the event is a charity fundraiser in memory of Alex Moore, an RAF serviceman who died in a skydiving accident in 2003.

Teams consist of three runners, the first completing one lap (2.2 miles), the second and third two laps (4.4 miles), and then all three together for a final lap. The total distance covered is 13.2 miles, the equivalent of a half marathon.

Despite rising temperatures as the race unfolded the first finishers crossed the line in just 1.16.49. DRAC Ladies' Masters #1, consisting of Charlotte Rose, Emma Potter Campbell and Carol Devil, dug deep to chase home in 1.29.10. Dereham's fastest team on the day (Mixed #1) comprised Louise Juby, Will Longworth and Jake Stearman, who powered home in a fast 1.19.57 to finish second overall.

Two other DRAC packs engaged in a fierce battle over the course of the final lap and finished almost simultaneously. Men's Masters #1 (Andy Rowles, Stuart Rose and Todd Lake) came in at 1.29.00, with Men's Senior #2 (James Davies, Chris Searle and Stephen Lee) a second behind.

Seventy five teams participated, with four Dereham teams among the fastest 12. Other Dereham times were: Men's Senior #1 (Malcolm Fisher, James Nice, Guzel Sari) 1.33.27, Mixed #2 (Sally Lee, Neville Knights, Keith Moore) 1.45.06, Men's Master #2 (David Olley, Rory Campbell, Philip Websdale) 1.58.12; Mixed #3 (Ant Elsey, Toni Tarrant, Jan Totterdale) 2.06.06; Ladies' Master #2 (Hazel Cason, Jan Moore, Jacquie Wood) 2.11.13. The Ladies' Senior squad did not finish.

Hundreds of runners and spectators enjoyed a relaxed, fun atmosphere, while the charity raffle raised £200.

Dereham Runners also took the opportunity of presenting veteran member Jacquie Wood with a set of framed photographs recording her epic run in the London Marathon. Yaxham resident Jacquie bravely took on the 26 mile run in a tribute to her late husband Derek, who recently lost a long battle with cancer. A donation of £548.50 has been made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in memory of Derek, all the profits from sales of refreshments at the Dereham 10 Mile race.
