PUBLISHED: 15:01 25 November 2010

BADMINTON: Dereham Neatherd High School had success at the School Sports Partnership competition.

The school gained top positions in a wide range of competitions.

Ashley Richardson and Bea Larrington-Spencer won the Girls’ U14 League. Annabel Nevard, Ashleigh O’Callaghan (U16s), Louis Jarrett and Ben Cordle (U14s) came second in their leagues.

Will Makins and Nikos Hinnis (U14) scooped third place, as did Robbie Clark and Will Earp (U16) with great efforts from Jack Vargeson and Jed Snell in an outstanding performance from all the Neatherd teams.

The level of play was high
and all the matches were exciting to watch.

The games were self-organised and teams kept their own scores to promote fair play in sport.

The Dereham pupils had been practicing their badminton skills in preparation for the tournament during their lunchtimes at
Badminton Club.

The club, held on a Monday, has been running since mid-September, so some had been playing for just eight weeks.

The winners go on to represent the West Norwich and Dereham Schools Sports Partnership at the county finals at the UEA on December 6.

The school is grateful to Tracy Daglish, school sports co-ordinator, for arranging these events and providing such sporting opportunities for pupils.

A big thank you also went to teacher, Kerry Garratt for her excellent coaching and huge enthusiasm.

Head teacher Peter Devonish said: “This is an excellent achievement for our school, which shows the high levels of success our students achieve, supported by excellent teaching and encouragement – I am absolutely delighted with all who took part.”
