Dereham Town manager Matt Henman will seek help from Lowestoft Town for FA Cup challenge

Dereham Town boss Matt Henman is hoping some Ryman League advice from Lowestoft Town can help keep his side's FA Cup dream alive.

The East Anglian duo learned who they will be playing in the third qualifying round on Monday afternoon after 2-1 weekend wins extended their run in the competition.

Dereham, who beat higher-level Chasetown at home on Saturday, are at Aldiss Park again – this time against Ryman Premier Division Metropolitan Police – and Henman admits he will be gaining insight about Police from the Suffolk outfit.

The Magpies’ manager said: “I’ve had a look about them on the internet and I’ll go and watch them but I’ll definitely be getting some information from Lowestoft.

“They beat them 2-1 in the league so I’ll be making a phone call as there is a good relationship between our clubs. I’ve picked up the phone to speak to Micky (Chapman) and Craig (Fleming) before to talk about players so I’ll do it again.

“It will give us some extra information about them which can only help. The main thing is though we’re at home, which we’re really pleased about. We know we will be on a good playing surface against a team which will probably be physically stronger than us.

“We will have to scrap but we don’t want to get involved in a fight as we’ll look to get the ball down and play our football. It’s going to be tough but it’s not inconceivable we could win it.”

In-form Dereham, who have won all of their 11 matches this campaign, have also seen off S&L Corby and Woodford United at home in the cup this term and have won away at Bugbrooke St Michaels.

Police, who play two levels higher than the Magpies, won 3-0 at Berkhamstead to seal their place in the next round. Striker Jonte Smith has scored seven goals in Met’s two FA Cup matches this season – including five in their 7-1 win over Beckenham Town.

Winners of the October 6 ties will collect £7,500 prize money and be one more victory from the first round proper.
