BRADENHAM Cricket Club opened their season with the customary match against Shipdham CC for the John Dewing Memorial Cup, the trophy being retained by Bradenham.

In glorious spring weather on Bradenham Green, Bradenham batted first but were soon reduced to 20-2 with both Bradenham openers Taylor and Campbell back in the pavilion following some accurate bowling from Pyeman, supported by good catching.

With Moody (62) caressing the ball and Blakey (61) hitting some lusty blows, they pushed the score along well. Mark Hunter followed with 52 not out with shots all round the ground. Bradenham made 228 off their 40 overs with Pyeman and Dennis being the pick of the Shipdham bowlers.

Shipdham's opener Staggles played some classy shots but the top order were unable to contribute at the rate required and Shipdham lost three quick wickets.

Milne helped to settle the innings and made a fine 40, but scoring was always behind the required run rate. Captain Staggles was out for a very good 51 and the team finished their innings on 155, with wickets shared between all of the Bradenham bowlers.
