Dereham Runners competed in the Great Yarmouth five-mile race, taking the ladies' team prize in the process.

An in-form Elizabeth Daly was fourth female finisher overall, crossing the line in 33.37, while veterans Carol Devlin and Gill Woodhouse topped their respective age categories with times of 34.27 and 42.38.

Other DRAC athletes negotiating the frantic promenade dash were Ed Turner (29.40, putting him in 16th place overall), Daniel Roberts (34.37), Grace Bird (36.50), Ryan Middleton (39.54, a PB), David Olley (44.38, PB), Jacquie Wood (45.07, PB), Paula Olley (46.26, PB), Philip Websdale (46.27, PB), Di Renshaw (51.38) and Hazel Cason (53.16).

Club members put in a strong showing at another evening race at Wroxham. The run formed part of the highly popular Wroxham 5k series, a trio of fast (though undulating runs) held during the spring and summer months.

Carol Devlin finished in a speedy 20.16, putting her first in her age group. Other DRAC participants and their times were Emma Potter-Campbell (21.41), Grace Bird (22.42), Gill Woodhouse (26.09) Hazel Casson (32.04) and Michael Barrett (40.45).

Six Dereham runners made a return visit to Wroxham for Chase the Train, an unorthodox 8.9 mile charity event in which competitors try to outpace a steam train. Starting at Aylsham, the course follows the footpath next to the Bure Valley Railway, with all proceeds donated to Crossroads Care East Anglia.

Gill Woodhouse, Paula Olley, David Olley and Philip Websdale ran the event as a team, finishing together in 1.27.08, while Emma Adcock came in at 1.36.56, and Hazel Cason at 1.39.58.

Meanwhile Dereham Runners are set to host another 'Fit For 5k' course for beginners ahead of the popular Dereham Town 5k run on August 20, which last year attracted more than 350 runners.

This year's programme begins on June 19 and will consist of 16 evening training sessions held over eight weeks at Scarning playing field on Dereham Road. Entry is £25 and covers personal instruction, your own training records to keep and complimentary entry into the race in August.
