Simon Mason, former GB and England hockey goalkeeper, led another very successful day organised by Dereham Hockey Club and Active Norfolk, aimed at all levels of goalkeepers and goalkeeper coaches.

As the only goalkeeping event of its kind in the region, as well as Norfolk players, it attracted goalkeepers from as far as Cambridge and Saffron Walden.

On a very dull, rain-soaked day, 44 goalkeepers and goalkeeper coaches, including a number of eight and nine-year-old junior players through to seniors from schools and clubs, were put through their paces by Mason.

He was supported by a team of 20 coaches and club volunteer coaches delivering goalkeeping fundamentals in small groups in the six goals positioned around Dereham Hockey Club's sand-dressed astro-turf pitch.

The aim of the day was to have fun whilst learning new goalkeeping skills, techniques and drills.

Despite the weather, everyone made positive progress with their skills, which will benefit school teams and hockey clubs in the region. The day was a huge success and a fantastic example of partnership working between Active Norfolk and Dereham Hockey Club.

It is anticipated that another goalkeeping day with Mason will take place next year.
