On a breezy Sunday afternoon Dereham Golf Club's 18 hole junior competition saw Lily Farrelly win the Captain's junior prize while Max Jacobs took the Larking Gowen Junior Championship claret jug.

The trophies were sponsored by club captain Ray Wicks and Larking Gowen chartered accountants and business advisors.

Lily completed the course with a net 65, playing off a 17 handicap. Captain Ray Wicks presented her with a new golf bag and the captain's putter. The captain also presented prizes to second placed Charlotte Chisholm (net 71 ocb) and third place George Sommerville (net 71).

Max led the field of 12 juniors and won with a gross 77 off a five handicap. He was presented with the Larking Gowen Championship claret jug and voucher for the pro shop by Chris Greeves, a partner with the firm. He also presented vouchers to second placed Lim Kevern (82) and third placed Joe Crane (87).

There was also a nine-hole competition which saw Charlie Eke take the gross prize over rival Charley Brett. Charlie received a commemorative salver and both boys received vouchers.

The net prize winner was Vinnie Rix who had recently returned to the club.

The captain presented Vinnie with a Titleist golf cap and other nine hole players Hayden Lambert and Tom Moss-Hobbs with prizes too. Six of the younger juniors took part in a five-hole competition which was won by Arthur Leeder, closely followed by Will Farrelly. Arthur received a winners' salver and both boys received vouchers, all presented by the captain.

'The weather was perfect for what is one of our biggest competitions of the year, 23 juniors, which is almost 90 percent of them, took part in the three levels of competition, with some good scores from those in the prizes, both gross and net,' said junior organiser Jane Bizley. 'It is always a special day with a great atmosphere in the clubhouse. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon and we are most grateful to our captain Ray Wicks, and to our sponsors Larking Gowen for their support,' she added.

Chris Greeves added: 'Dereham's junior section is a credit to the club and it is down to the hard work of the junior committee. You are still the envy of many clubs in the county'.
