Crown Fire Central and South Norfolk League

There were no league matches played on Saturday as attention switched to the fourth round of the Ben Smith Memorial Cup and the first round of the Ambulance Cup.

In the Ben Smith Memorial Cup, the match of the round was probably at North Elmham where the home team who have won the cup twice in the past three years squeezed past the current league leaders Thetford Athletic by the odd goal of seven.

Three teams from outside the top flight also made it through to the last eight. Hethersett Athletic, the Division Four leaders, won 8-2 at Hingham Athletic Reserves, Foulsham Reserves won by the odd goal of three at Sporle and Wymondham Town A from Division Two knocked out first division opponents East Harling Reserves, winning 4-1 at home.

Northwold SSC from Division Four pushed Saham Toney all the way but could not convert their chances and went down to the only goal of the game. In an all-first division clash, Dereham Town A edged past Bridgham United 4-3 and Rockland United beat Cockers by the same score.

The biggest shock in the Ambulance Cup was caused by Dickleburgh from Division Two who beat first division Gressenhall 4-2 at home. Other teams who beat teams from higher divisions included Hindolveston who made it a bad day for the Gressenhall club by beating their reserve team 5-0, Bradenham Wanderers Reserves who won 3-0 on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Swaffham Town A and Thetford Rovers Reserves who won 5-0 at home to Attleborough Town A.

The highest score of the day was achieved by Tacolneston, netting 11 times without reply from Breckland Wanderers and they were closely followed by Beetley, 8-2 home winners over Colkirk. West End made the long trip to Methwold Rovers but were rewarded with a 7-1 victory and Hingham Athletic ran out comfortable 5-0 winners at Necton Reserves. Castle Acre Swifts went behind to an own goal against Fakenham Town A but came from behind to win 4-1 and Great Cressingham won by the same score at home to Rockland United Reserves

Bunwell were 3-1 home winners over Bawdeswell and Yaxham won the all-club clash with their reserves by the same score. Wendling won by the odd goal of three at Shropham United, Shipdham Reserves beat Splitz United 5-3 while Shipdham first team won 5-2 at Toftwood Rangers.
