FOG was the winner in Tuesday night's Ridgeons Premier match at Dereham's Aldiss Park.

The game between the Magpies and Great Yarmouth Town was abandoned after 16 minutes.

The game kicked off in front of a crowd of almost 200 spectators but a blanket of fog enveloped the ground and Lowestoft referee Ady Sanarude called an early halt.

On Saturday, league leaders Dereham travel to 10th-placed Newmarket.

Results leave the Magpies still five points clear of Wroxham, both teams having played 21 games for 51 and 46 points respectively.

With Kirkley & Pakefield in third dropping off the pace with 34 points from 22 matches, Leiston remain a threat but face a backlog of games.

They have 32 points but have played eight games fewer than Dereham.

Dereham are the section's highest scorers with 57 goals, and have the third meanest defence with 18 goals against.

Mildenhall 2, Dereham Town 1

The Magpies suffered only their second league defeat of the season but remain five points clear of Wroxham at the top of the Ridgeons Premier Division as the Yachtsmen were in FA Vase action.

Dereham included loan signing from Lowestoft Craig Bussons but saw Mildenhall nearly take the lead after 11 minutes whan John Sands shot wide from 10 yards when well-placed, writes Rene Kendal.

Danny Beaumont responded for Dereham. He played a neat one-two with Scott Roberts before ballooning the ball over the bar from 14 yards.

Beaumont saw a goal-bound header from a Sam Willis cross tipped over the bar by Josh Pope in the 40th minute.

Mildenhall missed several chances in the first half and it was no surprise when they scored in the 50th minute.

An unmarked Sands hammered home at the far post following James McCabe's cross from the right.

Adam Gusterson powerfully headed wide from a Roberts corner for Dereham and Roberts saw a low drive flash wide before Mildenhall increased their lead in the 65th minute.

Captain Carl Murkin slotted home from close range after Willis had cleared off the line. Murkin then struck a post from 20 yards.

In the 86th minute Shaun Marshall in the Dereham goal pushed a shot onto a post before Gusterson was dismissed for dissent.

The Magpies were awarded a penalty for hands which Steve Harley converted for 2-1 then pushed in vain for an equaliser their performance did not deserve.
