The rain just held off on Sunday for Toftwood United Youth Football Club as they held their annual club tournament and presentation day.

The eight teams, whose age groups range from under-7s through to under-14s, were split up into 16 six-a-side teams of mixed age and ability groups who then played a European Championship-themed tournament.

The winning teams were then presented with their trophies by their managers, with all players receiving a medal. Presentations were made to all teams for their achievements throughout the season.

Andy Richmond, the long-standing chairman of the club, had his dedication acknowledged with the managers unanimously voting him as Clubman of the Year, a well deserved accolade. He is one of the founders of the club and over the last seven years or so has carried out a variety of roles within it. He will be a hard act to follow when he steps down at the end of the season.

Special thanks were also given to committee members for their invaluable help, most notably Andy's wife Mandy, who has been the club secretary since the beginning and without whom presentation day and a lot of other activities would not happen.

A big thank you needs to be said again to Andy and Mandy Richmond for all their hard work, to all the team managers for their good natured sportsmanship throughout the day, even if there were more than a few dubious refereeing decisions, to Colin from Rashers Snack Bar for providing the food and to the countless people who helped out on the day – but the biggest thank ou needs to go to the players who provided some outstanding football.

Over the years Toftwood United has grown in size as the teams progress through the different age groups. At present there are training opportunities for children from four years old up to the soon to be under-15s.

The club is always on the lookout for new players and there are currently places available within the current under-11s, 12s and 13s (school year groups 6, 7 and 8). If anyone would like further information they can contact Tracy on 01362 652702.
