GALLOW players have made progress in the Norfolk county play-offs. In the men's singles Richard Mason won 21-19, and Sam King won 21-12 - both now go through to the quarter-finals at Diss.

In the men's singles Richard Mason won 21-19, and Sam King won 21-12 - both now go through to the quarter-finals at Diss.

In the pairs, Sam King and Paul Shackcloth won 29-6 and now play in the quarter-finals at Acle. Tom Beck, Mark Riches and Richard Mason won 26-6 in the triples and play at Brecks (Thetford) in the quarter-finals. In the fours, Peter Murfit, Bob Nurse, Malcalm Starkey and David Frost won in the second round 19-17 and Simon Libovitz, Neil Moulton, Wilf Graver and Paul Shackcloth won 24-7 and now play in the quarter-finals at Pinewood Park.

Jamie Chestney played in the Home International Series in Perth and skipped his England rink to three wins against Ireland, Wales and Scotland. England won the series.

In the Norfolk Premier League, Gallow men's A team played at Wymondham Dell A, and lost 1-6, 73-84. V Smith, S Savory, A Walton, M King won 26-17. N Moulton, J Piersey, S Lowe, M Riches lost 20-24. D Taney, K Humphrey, V Hudson, R Mason lost 14-18. L Seppings, S King, P Shackcloth lost 13-25.

The Gallow men's B team playing at home won again in the league against Pinewood Park B team, 83-70, 5�-1�. A Pearson, P Rayner, B Barnes, K Frohawk won 27-11. I Routh, F Hazel, T Anderson, K Mallett drew 20-20. R Preston, D Cawthorne, B Barker, R Wicks lost 18-19. C Walters, M Rayner, D Vaughan, C Whiteside lost 18- 20.

The ladies B team completed their league fixtures when they played Roundwood A team away and they lost the match 2-6, 51-57. C Lincoln, M Bowyer, D Ramm won 21-11. P Wright, G Horne, P Whitehead won 15-7. E Fickling, R Gould, R Owen lost 10-16. D Randall, H Barnes B Graver lost 5-23.

DEREHAM mens A team's poor away record continued with a 64-91 defeat at Ashill Old Hall.

Pride of place this week goes to the men's B team, who without playing, have become runners-up in Division Five and are promoted to Division Four. All the teams below them lost.

M Bartholomew and Y Hunt won their preliminary and first round ladies county pairs at Lakeside on Saturday, but succumbed to a strong ladies pair from Acle on Sunday at Dereham.

In the men's county singles David Abbs has progressed to the quarter-finals, also Bridget Woods in the ladies singles quarter-finals.
