Fakenham Town have appointed a new manager whose task is to guide the Ghosts from the bottom of the Ridgeons First Division back to Premier Division status.

He is former player Wayne Anderson, who has left the Downham Town manager's job to take over the hot seat at Clipbush Park.

Anderson, 35, said at the weekend: "I feel the job was right for me to enable me to move up the ladder. Fakenham are a bigger club than Downham. Fakenham have a lot of lads who I'm looking forward to training and getting them out of the current rut and getting them back to the Premier Division."

Anderson, who played for the Ghosts under Paul Tong and Kevin Boon three or four seasons ago, will in the next couple of weeks take over from Neil Jarvis, who has been acting manager in recent weeks. Jarvis will then concentrate on Fakenham's under-18 squad.

Acting chairman Geoff Saunders said Anderson had lots of enthusiasm and described him as "a great catch" for the club. He was well aware of the Fakenham club's potential and facilities and the aim was to try and guide the Ghosts back into the Premier Division within the next season or two.

Anderson said he was sorry to be leaving Downham, who gave him his first chance in management, but Fakenham was another step up the ladder for him. "They are a fantastic club with fantastic facilities and both the chairman and committee want to take the club forward."

As Downham manager he completed the league double over his new club this season, 3-1 at Fakenham and 2-1 at Downham.

Anderson and his new charges suffered a postponement of the home league game with Godmanchester at the weekend.

On Saturday the Ghosts are at Whitton, then on Tuesday night comes the derby at Swaffham (7.45pm).
