Girls' Golf Rocks! – That's the message from a group of Norfolk girl golfers who want to inspire others to follow them into the sport, writes Lyndsey Hewison.

'Girls Golf Rocks' started in Essex earlier this year and is now launching in Norfolk with girls' taster sessions on the next two Saturdays (July 25 and August 1) at each of the three clubs taking part: Sprowston Manor, Royal Norwich and Dereham.

Eight members of the Norfolk girls' squad are involved as mentors for the project which is led by the Golf Foundation with the support of England Golf and Active Norfolk.

They'll help to welcome new girls at the taster sessions and they'll be spreading the message that golf is a fun and sociable game, with health benefits and a competitive edge.

The tasters will be taken by PGA professionals and afterwards there will be the opportunity to take a fun and informal four-week structured coaching programme provided by the clubs

Katie Moggan, regional development officer for the Golf Foundation, said: 'Following the success of the Girls Golf Rocks programme in Essex, I am excited that this has now spread to Norfolk.

'The county girls really are the best role models for encouraging new participants into the game and emphasising the fun, friendship and social side that golf has to offer.'

Girls can book onto the sessions on Twitter via @GirlsGolfRocks1 or by contacting the clubs directly: Royal Norwich (01603 429928); Sprowston Manor (01603 254290) or Dereham (01362 695900)
