THE local cross country season started in glorious weather with the first of the six race series hosted by Ryston Runners at Shouldham Warren.Dereham Runners had their numbers depleted by injury and holidays but managed to pick up a first, Clem Vogler 20:25, and third, Ernie Bradshaw 21:21 in the over-60 age group over the 5km undulating wooded course.

Dereham Runners had their numbers depleted by injury and holidays but managed to pick up a first, Clem Vogler 20:25, and third, Ernie Bradshaw 21:21 in the over-60 age group over the 5km undulating wooded course.

Neville Knights 19:21 led the team home and sixth positions were achieved by Paul Harrison 20:28, Jenny Norton 23:59 and Hazel Cason 28:22.

The senior team was made up with Steve Nimmock 19:44, Andy Norton 21:17, Rory Campbell 21:38 and John Richardson 23:19.

On the junior side the club were represented by Isaac King 10:48, William Moore 15:13 and Anthony Buckley 11:18.

The previous week, John Richardson completed his first marathon in 20 years when he ran the Loch Ness Marathon. His time has not deteriorated in 20 years and he ran it in 4-18:58.

On November 3 the club starts its winter programme of circuit training and conditioning at the Northgate School, Dereham under the guidance of a qualified coach.

The session is between 6.30 to 8pm and is open to non-members.
