Dereham Town had to grind out a win against Heybridge Swifts at a rain drenched Aldiss Park, writes Rene Kendal.

The struggling Ryman League North visitors, who are currently rebuilding, set their side up to be more resilient after a run of defeats and in the end it took a 51st-minute own goal for the home side to gain victory.

Dereham manager Matt Henman said: 'Saturday was all about getting the result, another win on the board.'

This Saturday his side face another tough test when they play Thamesmead Town at Aldiss Park. The Kent side are currently sitting ninth in the table – four places above Dereham from five games fewer.

The Magpies will have a similar squad to the previous weekend with only Adam Smith (slight groin strain) a doubt.

On Tuesday night the Magpies turn their attentions to the Norfolk Senior Cup with a fourth round tie at Diss (7.45pm kick-off).

Dereham narrowly missed out in the final against Wroxham last season losing 3-2 after extra-time. Henman would love to get his side back to Carrow Road again this term.

He said: 'We are taking this competition seriously; with the Ryman League midweek games now almost finished we can and will be fielding our strongest side. It is important that we go to Diss with the right attitude.'
