Dereham maintained their improved Men's East League form with a 3-1 victory of Bishop's Stortford which helped them edge closer to safety.

A man-of-the-match performance from keeper Tom Vaughan ensured that Dereham had few worries at the back.

Mark Braybrook was again in fine form and got his reward with a goal midway through the first half following a winding run by Sam Plater.

It was the same combination that added a second goal by the interval.

Stortford pulled one back just after the break but then lost a man to the sin bin after a poor tackle and Dereham took full advantage, with Mike Timm restoring his side's two-goal advantage.

Magpies Ladies IV 3, Old Buckenham II 1

MAGPIES, after a three week break due to postponements, started slowly by their standards.

Magpies found their rhythm first and took the early initiative, playing the ball up into their attacking third, winning several short corners and forcing the Old Buckenham keeper to make some quality saves.

The breakthrough came when the ball found Kay Dennis on the edge of the D; she executed a sharp turn and fired the ball into the corner of the goal.

Magpies doubled their advantage, left midfielder Zoe Cole well-positioned in the D to slot home - her first goal of the season and much deserved. Magpies continued to dominate the play.

The second half saw Old Buckenham have more possession, but the Magpies defence stayed strong, Becky Ford in particular making some crucial interceptions and then making some good runs forward to support the attacking play.

A lovely move from the forwards gave Magpies their third goal, Beth Alexander passing to Kay Dennis, who played

it to Rachel Clifford who put the ball away.

Old Buckenham won three consecutive short corners, and scored a late consolation goal.

In Women's East Legue, Evergreens lost 3-1 to Norwich Dragons and Harleston Magpies II beat Dereham II 3-0.

In the Martin & Acock League, Broadland II won 7-0 at Evergeens II.
