HOCKEY: Dereham kept their promotion hopes firmly on track after returning from Thurrock with an impressive 7-0 Women's East League victory on Saturday.

In an eventful game that saw the visitors back to their best, Evie van Poortvliet was unluckily sin-binned after an incident with the home goalkeeper, who was also sidelined for 10 minutes.

After her return at the beginning of the second half, van Poortvliet scored a hat-trick to make a point to the opposition.

In the first half Dereham went 3-0 up with goals from Holly Allen and two from Georgie Edwards.

The second half was dominated by van Poortvliet, although Allen did add her second.

Becky Wheeler's dominance in the middle gained her the player of the match award.

Dereham Colts II were beaten 3-2 at home by Harleston Magpies VI in Division Three, with Emily Barnard their player of the match.

Dereham's bid to avoid the drop suffered a setback when they were beaten 4-1 at St Albans, but with fellow strugglers City of Peterborough II also losing they remain outside the bottom two in the Men's East League.
