DEREHAM Ladies entered the six-a-side Watton tournament with a confident eight outfield players but no goalkeeper. Hannah Palmer volunteered and proved to be both an awesome striker and an effective goal stopper.

The side started the local tournament well, beating Broadland, Wisbech and Watton Whites. The match which followed saw Dereham scoring early but a controversial decision gave the Watton Blue team a penalty corner. This was converted with a great strike into the bottom right corner, resulting in a score draw.

The next match against another Watton team also had a disappointing finish with the Reds scoring the equaliser with seconds to go.

The next game against Norwich Dragons saw Eve Settle fire Dereham in front with a superbly-worked team goal. Two more goals gave Dereham a 3-0 win.

With four wins and two score draws Dereham entered the final game on level points with Yarmouth. Both teams fought hard but Dereham took an early lead with Rachael Cramp putting the ball into the top left corner. Another two goals saw Dereham win the competition.

Overall it was an excellent tournament for everyone. Player of the tournament was awarded to Kate Finley for representing Dereham's winning squad for the third year running.
