A husband and wife have teamed up to take the reins together at Dereham Golf Club.

Kevin Joy and his wife Christine have become club captains – the first time that a husband and wife have served as captains in the same year at Dereham.

Kevin, who plays off a nine handicap, has been playing golf since the 1960s.

He took a break from the game after marrying Christine in 1976 and resumed in 1996 after family commitments subsided. It was then that Christine took up the game.

Both Christine and Kevin Joined Dereham in 2001. Christine has served as treasurer for the ladies section and Kevin as handicap and competition secretary over the last two years.

Kevin was nominated to be captain by immediate past captain John Chaney.

In accepting the nomination he said he was honoured to take on the role. Pointing to the club’s recent award of Golfmark Higher achiever he said: “Dereham Golf Club is a great members club with a strong friendly membership boasting a golf course in enviable condition throughout the year.

“I am delighted to be captain and look forward to welcoming new members during this year.”
