A cruciate ligament injury picked up in the final five minutes of the last game of the season, at home to FC Clacton, needs an operation.
His father, Ghosts joint manager Stuart, said it will take a year for Adam, also a promising fast bowler for the town's cricket club, to get fully fit again.
It means he misses the chance to pay against a Norwich City team in the first of five pre-season home friendlies for the Fakenham first team.
These are Friday, July 10 Norwich City (7.30pm ko); Friday, July 17 Dereham Town 7.30; Thursday, July 23 Cromer 7.30; Saturday, July 25 Norwich United 3; Saturday, August 1 Loddon 3.
