DEREHAM'S under-17 cricketers moved into the semi-finals of the Junior Carter Cup for the first time after beating Norwich by 121 runs on Sunday.
Batting first, Dereham Jaguars posted an impressive 235 for five, skipper Lee Hoggett leading the way with 72. Jake Anema contributed 55 and Jack West made 33. Norwich were then restricted to 114, with two wickets each for Hoggett and Anema, while Jamie Irons also claimed two victims.
Dereham will now face either Stow/Downham Bombers or Horsford in the semi-finals, with the date to be arranged.
Club chairman Adie Hewitt said: “It's a fantastic achievement by the team and hopefully now they can go all the way to the final. It shows that the work the club has put into developing young players is paying off and several of the under-17s are already appearing for the first team.”
All three of Dereham's senior sides saw their games rained off on Saturday as most fixtures were wiped out by the weather.
Dereham's first team managed to make a start, reaching 25 for one in their Norfolk Alliance Division Two match at home to Mundford before the rain came.
