Juniors tee off for trophies
MID-AUGUST saw Dereham Golf Club juniors playing for the Wiseman Trophy and the Scratch Cup, sponsored by local solicitors Hood, Vores & Allwood, and two new trophies, the Corroless Shield and Corroless Cup donated by Andy Hunt of Corroless Eastern, Dereham.
MID-AUGUST saw Dereham Golf Club juniors playing for the Wiseman Trophy and the Scratch Cup, sponsored by local solicitors Hood, Vores & Allwood, and two new trophies, the Corroless Shield and Corroless Cup donated by Andy Hunt of Corroless Eastern, Dereham.
Competitions were held over 18, nine and five holes which brought out a total of 32 players on a day of sunshine and showers.
In the 18-hole competition the winner of the Wiseman Trophy was Alex Tang who shot an excellent net 60 (84-24-60), second was Ryan Thorogood (94-28-66) and third Matthew Wood (90-19-71).
This was Ryan's first 18-hole competition as he had only acquired his handicap the previous week.
The winner of the Scratch Cup was Jamie Beeby with a gross 79, followed by Nic Cains 85 and William Tang 88.
The nine-hole competitors played for the Corroless Shield and Corroless Cup. The shield was won by James Hunt with a gross 55, followed by Simon Frame 59 and Victoria Green 66. The Corroless Cup was won by Peter Turnbull with a net 30, followed by Benjamin Whitbourn and Callum Turner.

Seven juniors took part in a five-hole competition which saw eight-year-old Max Jacobs take the first prize.
The season continues with the Alec Porter Shield and the Bob Lees Trophies on Monday (August 25), tee times from 11.30am.
